I have decided to write several articles on the theme of 'what I want my children to remember from my teachings.' These are things that I hope they carry with them through adulthood.
#1 – There is a God From the time they were too little to understand, I've taught my children about God. Opportunities abound. When you are out and about and see the beautiful sunshine streaming down, talk about how God made the sun on day 4 of creation. As we plant flowers or take some to a loved one, the 3rd day of creation is discussed. Everything around us, each beautiful sight, are all opportunities to tell about God and what He has given us. Each meal begins with thanking God for what He has provided for us to eat. Each day ends with another talk with our heavenly Father. God is in all we do and we do all because of Him. He is who we live for and who we serve. His Word is also daily 'food' for us and time is taken to read it. We sing to learn about His Word, and it is a part of our school day. Life revolves around Him and is because of Him. “To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David. The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handywork. Day unto day uttereth speech, and night unto night sheweth knowledge. There is no speech nor language, where their voice is not heard. Their line is gone out through all the earth, and their words to the end of the world. In them hath he set a tabernacle for the sun, Which is as a bridegroom coming out of his chamber, and rejoiceth as a strong man to run a race. His going forth is from the end of the heaven, and his circuit unto the ends of it: and there is nothing hid from the heat thereof.” (Psalms 19:1-6) Did you know that 32 of the 66 books in the Bible make mention of the Creation or Adam, the first man?(broken down by writer it is more like only 16 books were written by a writer who did not mention it.) Do you realize what that means to those who want to accept evolution and the Bible at the same time? If the first two chapters of Genesis are a fable, parable, myth, allegory, or anything else other than the true accounts of the origins of the universe, earth, life, and mankind; then the reliability of the rest of the Bible, as well as God and Jesus, is called into question. How can we trust what the Bible says about the end if we cannot trust what it says about the beginning? How can we trust a God who would make up stories instead of telling the truth? How could we trust Jesus to be right about Heaven if He was wrong about Adam and the creation? We must choose! Either the Bible is true or evolution is true, you can't have them both.
Recently there have been several families with whom I have been able to spend some time. I have seen some common characteristics in these families. They have each left the church and have similar attitudes. These attitudes are becoming prevalent in our society and we need to counteract them in our homes. I haven't put an extensive amount of time into this yet, but I wanted to share with you these destructive attitudes that are coming into the home. Hopefully in future posts, I can deal with each of these specifically. Dangerous attitudes that are destructive to your families faith: 1. Scripture is open to any interpretation. This is one of the most scary to me. If we can't KNOW what God meant, then we will be floundering in a sea of unknowns. How insecure would that make one feel? “Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation.” (2 Peter 1:20) We HAVE to be able to know what God meant or chaos and lack of faith ensues. 2. There is no absolute truth. This one is closely related to the first. “Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.” (John 14:6) Notice that Jesus said “THE truth”. This indicates there is one truth. 3. Everyone has their own path to God/Heaven. “Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me. If ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also: and from henceforth ye know him, and have seen him.” (John 14:6-7) 4. Jesus was just a good man who taught good things about how to live. You only have a few choices here. Either Jesus was LORD, the Son of God as he claimed to be and every word He says is true OR He was a LIAR OR He was a LUNATIC, or He was just a LEGEND. If you pick and choose what to believe out of what He said, then you are saying He was lying about some things. Either believe every word He says, or none at all. You can't have it half way. “I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot. So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth.” (Revelation 3:15-16) 5. The Bible is just a book of myths like the Greek fairy tales or other books of myth. Honestly, this is one that I've had to take a pretty hard look at in the past. But, when you consider the fact that the Bible was written by about 40 men over about 1500 years and has no discrepancies, it is pretty amazing. No other book can claim such a thing. Also, if you read some of the other books of myth, they are similar to the Bible. In most cases, the Bible came first and is in my opinion the place where some of the myths were taken. 6. Evolution is a fact of science. This one is being taught in the schools and many children are taking it hook, line and sinker. When actually studied, these facts won't hold water. We MUST be diligent in teaching our children the truth about evolution. This is just the tip of the iceberg. The attitudes that I find sometimes astound me. It seems to me that people who are immersed in this type of thinking are searching, yearning for truth yet they tell themselves there is no truth. We must be active in keeping these attitudes from the home and countering these lies with the truth of God. I recommend books like Convicted, magazines like Think or Discovery Magazine for the younger ones. There are many others. Know the truth yourself and diligently teach your children as well.
I can't say everything on this website is necessarily right, but there is some great stuff for kids here that teaches creation. Jesus said, "For he that is not against us is on our part." Mark 9:40

Psalm 8
"O LORD, our Lord, How excellent is Your name in all the earth, Who have set Your glory above the heavens! Out of the mouth of babes and nursing infants You have ordained strength, Because of Your enemies, That You may silence the enemy and the avenger. When I consider Your heavens, the work of Your fingers, The moon and the stars, which You have ordained, What is man that You are mindful of him, And the son of man that You visit him? For You have made him a little lower than the angels, And You have crowned him with glory and honor. You have made him to have dominion over the works of Your hands; You have put all things under his feet, All sheep and oxen-- Even the beasts of the field, The birds of the air, And the fish of the sea That pass through the paths of the seas. O LORD, our Lord, How excellent is Your name in all the earth!" What a humbling realization it is that God, the Creator of all things, has entrusted us with the care of His awesome creation. Even more, He made it all for us! More humbling still is the fact the same Almighty God sent His only Son to bleed and die so that we may obtain salvation. Just who are we that He is so mindful of us? Let us always be mindful of His unfathomable love and favor. Who Am I? When I think of how He came so far from Glory, Came to dwell among the lowly such as I; To suffer shame and such disgrace, On Mount Calvary take my place, Then I ask myself a question, Who am I? Refrain Who am I that a King would bleed and die for? Who am I that He would pray, "Not my will, Thine," for? The answer I may never know, Why He ever loved me so; That to an old rugged cross He'd go For who am I? Then I'm reminded of His words, "I'll leave thee never, Just be true, I'll give to you a life forever," I wonder what I could have done To deserve God's only Son, Fight my battles 'til they're won, Who am I? Refrain -CA These books are great! Alex Plays in the Garden, Alex takes a Boat Ride and Alex takes a Hike are three books written by Brad Harrub and his two sons, Will and Reese. They are wonderful for teaching little children about God's world and His book. Here's what the back of Alex Plays in the Garden says about this book: "The authors invite you to join Alex the Stegosaurus, and his friend Riley, a Triceratops, and learn for yourself. These early reader books are designed not only to help young children learn to read, but also present an accurate portrait of popular Bible events. Join Alex and Riley as they describe the Creation account in its simplicity and power." We love this book! The pictures are just beautiful. As you go through the book, a letter will stand out and you'll quickly see that a different letter is featured occasionally. These letters are going through the alphabet, so you can teach about the alphabet at the same time as learning Biblical concepts. Alex Takes a Boat Ride is a trip! Join the animals as they practice Tae Kwon Do and play pirate games on board the ark with Noah! And Alex gets to enjoy chocolate-dipped bananas on board too! Children get to see how the world was changed as well. Here's what the back of this book says: "Join Alex, the Stegosaurus, and his friend Riley, a Triceratops, to learn about the animals and Noah's grand adventure about the ark. These Early Reader books are designed to not only help young children learn to read, but also present an accurate portrait of well-known Bible events. Join Alex and Riley as they share how God saved Noah and his family, along with the animals-including the dinosaurs!" Unfortunately, our family doesn't have Alex Takes a Hike, yet, but I'm sure it is just as good as the other two! Join Alex and Riley as they witness Abraham's obedience in his willingness to offer his son, Isaac, for a sacrifice as God told him to do. I don't know if there are more planned for this series, but if there are, children will love them all for sure! But wait! That's not all! There's also an Alex Coloring Book for your aspiring artist! Children will enjoy coloring Alex and Riley and all their friends!

Previously, I had featured a product from Apologetics Press called Creation Cards. Today I will do a review of the Creation Cards - God's Animal Kindom. There is another set called Exploring God's Creation. These Creation Cards are wonderful! Each card has a full color photograph of the animal with the name written in bold letters. On the back of each card are cool facts about that animal. There are even two extra blank cards for you to design your own cards with your child's favorite animals. The first thing we did was to punch holes in the corner and put them on a ring. My 10 month old loves to flip through them! Some are oriented up and down and some are side to side, so we had put the hole in different corners. Ours are grouped by how they are oriented, then we put all the mammals together in each of those two groups, then reptiles and fish. As you can see, my 10 month old finds the pictures engaging. She wants to reach out and grab the animals. As we flip through them with her, we read 1 or two of the facts. With each animal, we talk about how God made it. If we can make the animal sound, we do. She's already trying to bark like a dog! The facts make it enjoyable for the whole family! My 9 year old and 6 year old begged to have them read, so we began to read them for our Bible time before bed. Even my husband and I are learning facts from them! Did you know that a camel's hump can weigh up to 80 pounds? Or that God designed foxes to be able to hear an earthworm stretching in the grass? Amazing!
