I have decided to write several articles on the theme of 'what I want my children to remember from my teachings.' These are things that I hope they carry with them through adulthood.
#1 – There is a God From the time they were too little to understand, I've taught my children about God. Opportunities abound. When you are out and about and see the beautiful sunshine streaming down, talk about how God made the sun on day 4 of creation. As we plant flowers or take some to a loved one, the 3rd day of creation is discussed. Everything around us, each beautiful sight, are all opportunities to tell about God and what He has given us. Each meal begins with thanking God for what He has provided for us to eat. Each day ends with another talk with our heavenly Father. God is in all we do and we do all because of Him. He is who we live for and who we serve. His Word is also daily 'food' for us and time is taken to read it. We sing to learn about His Word, and it is a part of our school day. Life revolves around Him and is because of Him. “To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David. The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handywork. Day unto day uttereth speech, and night unto night sheweth knowledge. There is no speech nor language, where their voice is not heard. Their line is gone out through all the earth, and their words to the end of the world. In them hath he set a tabernacle for the sun, Which is as a bridegroom coming out of his chamber, and rejoiceth as a strong man to run a race. His going forth is from the end of the heaven, and his circuit unto the ends of it: and there is nothing hid from the heat thereof.” (Psalms 19:1-6) Technology is amoral. If I've used the term correctly, I mean that it is neither good nor evil. It can be used for good or evil. People on the internet have used technology for both. There are many things out there posted by people that are evil and very destructive to the Christian. On the other hand there is much out there that is good for edification and building up. These are the things I try to focus on in this blog. Today's feature is to share with you Focus Press's new YouTube channel. This is a great tool to use for you to build your faith. Show the videos to your children and build their faith! Spread the word!
Hot off the presses! Can you say that when it is a DVD? Well, whatever it is, they are here! The next two episodes of Digger Doug was just released this morning! Get yourself a copy! Episode 17, titled “Coal and the Age of the Earth” AND
Episode 18 is titled “The Complex Design of the Human Body” This is a series of books you may not be familiar with. Apologetics Press has done a wonderful job with these learn-to-read readers targeted for children ages 3-6. There's "Bats, Cats and Rats," "Birds, Bugs and Bees," "Dogs, Frogs, and Hogs," "Ducks, Bucks and Woodchucks," "Fish, Fleas and Flies," and "Goose, Moose and Mongoose" (not pictured). The insides are beautifully illustrated with photographs and cartoon characters. Of course there's a huge emphasis on God and His Creation. The titles are fun and my kids just want to pick them up and read them because the covers are so engaging. The set of six (or each individual book) is available at Apologetics Press Store, so get yours today and continue instilling creation in the hearts and minds of your little ones!
These books are great! Alex Plays in the Garden, Alex takes a Boat Ride and Alex takes a Hike are three books written by Brad Harrub and his two sons, Will and Reese. They are wonderful for teaching little children about God's world and His book. Here's what the back of Alex Plays in the Garden says about this book: "The authors invite you to join Alex the Stegosaurus, and his friend Riley, a Triceratops, and learn for yourself. These early reader books are designed not only to help young children learn to read, but also present an accurate portrait of popular Bible events. Join Alex and Riley as they describe the Creation account in its simplicity and power." We love this book! The pictures are just beautiful. As you go through the book, a letter will stand out and you'll quickly see that a different letter is featured occasionally. These letters are going through the alphabet, so you can teach about the alphabet at the same time as learning Biblical concepts. Alex Takes a Boat Ride is a trip! Join the animals as they practice Tae Kwon Do and play pirate games on board the ark with Noah! And Alex gets to enjoy chocolate-dipped bananas on board too! Children get to see how the world was changed as well. Here's what the back of this book says: "Join Alex, the Stegosaurus, and his friend Riley, a Triceratops, to learn about the animals and Noah's grand adventure about the ark. These Early Reader books are designed to not only help young children learn to read, but also present an accurate portrait of well-known Bible events. Join Alex and Riley as they share how God saved Noah and his family, along with the animals-including the dinosaurs!" Unfortunately, our family doesn't have Alex Takes a Hike, yet, but I'm sure it is just as good as the other two! Join Alex and Riley as they witness Abraham's obedience in his willingness to offer his son, Isaac, for a sacrifice as God told him to do. I don't know if there are more planned for this series, but if there are, children will love them all for sure! But wait! That's not all! There's also an Alex Coloring Book for your aspiring artist! Children will enjoy coloring Alex and Riley and all their friends!
